Matter.

Taking an interest in the scientific method and explorative fieldwork I have devoted a part of my practice towards the research into living material and natural resources. Working mainly with mycelium, microbial-leather (kombucha) and clay.

In doing so I had the pleasure to be introduced to lab-practices by the likes of Mauritio Montalti, Mediamatic and The Microbiology Department of the University of Utrecht - under supervision of Han Wösten. My gratitude goes out to all of them. It is the merging of disciplines that will bring material development forward.

Other than that I have to pay credit to YAYA Kombucha who advanced my knowledge on Kombucha cultures. And the EKWC for allowing me to bring my fungi into the ceramic-lab.

And of course Marieke Broertjes - with whom I formed Studio Broed (2014 - 2018), traveling the Netherlands with our diy lab-caravan and exploring mycelium as novel design-material.
